With their novel Parkinson-on-a-Chip model, the group of Cluster member Peter Ertl from TU Vienna is nominated for the Houska Award. The chip allows scientists to develop personalized treatment options for each patient. By cultivating patient cells on the chip, a miniature 3D brain model is formed which can then be used to study neurodegenerative effects. Integrated optic and electric biosensors allow live evaluation of applied medications.

The Houska Award is the largest private award for applied research in Austria, with a total annual prize money of 500.000€, donated by the B&C Foundation. Voting is possible at until September 20!
