Turning the Spotlight: Celebrating Dr. Karyna Tarasova

For years, Karyna Tarasova has taken every opportunity to make her peers visible and to let the research of VetMed, ASEV, and the Cluster shine. Today it is her turn. Congratulations to Dr Tarasova on the successful completion of her PhD and an outstanding defensio!

Karyna carried out her work at the Clinical Center for Equine Health and Research, VetMed Uni Vienna, in collaboration with Cluster Associate Members TAmiRNA and Evercyte. Work on her thesis “From Dexamethasone-induced senescence to cell-free therapies: Harnessing fetal and perinatal extracellular vesicles for osteoarthritis treatment” was supervised by Florien Jenner, Maik Dahlhoff, and Iris Gerner, and reviewed by Christine Lehner and Janina Burk-Luibl. Her defense brought together a room (and a Zoom) full of colleagues, friends, and long-time companions from across Europe. The discussion was everything a PhD defense should be: lively, thoughtful, and engaging. Karyna didn’t just present her work, she owned it with confidence, clarity, and confidence.

Karyna has been a driving force in building networks within the Austrian research community. As Head of Science Communication of ASEV, she has helped shape how our field connects, communicates, and grows. She is the kind of person you really want on your team. Wherever her research journey will take her (hopefully some place within the Cluster!), we know she will do great things.
