the new MatureTissue PhD program – a joint venture of FH Technikum and TU Vienna

In its new doc.funds.connect program, the FWF offers funding to researchers from universities of applied sciences and universities if they join forces to jointly develop a doctoral program where doctoral candidates are trained in an excellent research environment. The doctoral program is then fully funded with 1 million Euros for a period of up to four years. The offer opens up opportunities for fruitful cooperation in the field of application-oriented basic research.

The University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien, together with TU Vienna, is one of the institutions that were able to prevail in the international assessment process. The doctoral program is coordinated by cluster member Andreas Teuschl-Woller.

PhD program “MatureTissue”

Participating partners: University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien, TU Vienna

Funding volume: 1,005,148.04 euros | Project duration: 4 years

More and more people suffer from acute or chronic musculoskeletal complaints that are often difficult to treat clinically. The aim of the “MatureTissue” doctoral program is to establish a research and training focus on the subject of tissue engineering. The participating research groups at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien and TU Vienna want to better understand the causes of musculoskeletal diseases and develop new therapeutic approaches. In bioreactors and microfluidic systems, 3D cell constructs are generated from stem cells and other cell types and mechanically controlled so that they mature into functional artificial tissues such as bones, tendons, cartilage or muscles. Young researchers acquire interdisciplinary knowledge and skills with a high application-oriented character. This is supported by a diverse network / training program in which research stays at foreign partner institutions are also funded.
